89 viewsBriar happy to be in the woods!

64 viewsGetting near to the top!
DSCF4115.jpg
62 viewsA view of the mountaineers route up to the summit of Mt Charleston. The summit is the peak on the right.
DSCF4116.jpg
48 viewsAnother view of the mountaineers route to the summit. We think you cut left of center, then back right again and up to the plane crash site, then up to the summit. Many scree fields, but doable.

52 viewsCloser to the top...

59 viewsThe falls were flowing harder than when Briar was there earlier this year, but apparently they are usually flowing more.
DSCF4119.jpg
64 viewsAnother shot of the falls. The water was splashing over the edge and falling to the ground; it wasn't just dribbling down the side of the rock.
DSCF4120.jpg
70 viewsA view of the whole falls area- you can see the vegetation that grows at the base of the falls, and how popular a hike it is on a hot summer day! It was in the low 70's up there.
DSCF4121.jpg
68 viewsThe view from below the falls- you can plainly see the water splashing over the edge.
DSCF4122.jpg
90 viewsLooking up from underneath the falls- sunlight coming from right.
DSCF4123.jpg
64 viewsBased on what other hikers and locals told us, the water is safe to drink. We filled our water bottle and drank the water, so check with me later in August to see if we're paying the price!
DSCF4124.jpg
53 viewsPart of the fun was trying to catch enough of the water to channel into our bottle.
DSCF4125.jpg
61 viewsI got quite soaked playing in the water, and it felt GREAT!
DSCF4126.jpg
54 viewsRepresenting Pennsylvania, collecting more water.
DSCF4127.jpg
68 viewsFrom the falls plateau, facing back down Kyle Canyon.
DSCF4128.jpg
61 viewsThe rock formations on the side of the Charleston summit were amazing- the layers of rock were folded over on top of each other over and over again. It's crazy to think that each of these layers were originally deposited on a flat plane, and the motion of the mountain building bent them like this.
DSCF4129.jpg
57 viewsWalking back down the hill, looking down Kyle canyon.
DSCF4131.jpg
87 viewsThis is an easy hike- even little kids were doing it! We ran into a heavy smoker near the top, and he talked as though he might die on the trail. I felt sorry for him. The hike is only 2.8 miles roundtrip, and he wasn't even to the falls yet!
