We spent the 1st part of the day rafting the middle fork of the Flathead River, then hiked to Apgar summit on the SW corner of the park. Great views!

We arrived in Spokane, WA around lunchtime, picked up our Chevy Trailblazer rental, and drove to Montana. We stopped for dinner at the Bulldog Saloon in Whitefish, and then set up camp at the Fish Creek Campground on Lake McDonald.

We started exploring by driving as far up the "Going-to-the-Sun Rd" as we could. It was still closed for snow removal!! We then hiked to Avalanche Lake, and drove up to the NW part of the park to Polebridge for dinner. A town that time forgot!!

We packed up camp and drove around the bottom of the park (GttS road STILL closed) and stopped at 2 Medicine Lake for an awesome hike! We set up camp at the St Mary campground and then drove as far as we could on Goint to the Sun Rd coming from the East. We did one last hike through sunrift Gorge, then stopped back at the St Mary Lodge for some Moose Drool, then bed.

The Grinnell Glacier/Lake Hike is phenomenal. We couldn't believe how much this area resembles central Switzerland. The flowers were unbelievable, and as the clouds drifted past us through the valley at eye level, it was utterly surreal. These are some of the best pictures of the trip.

Wanting to see what the Northern part of Glacier looks like, we crossed the border to the Canadian side called Waterton Lakes Nat'l Park. We rode about 9 miles on rented Mtn bikes, then, fearing bears, came back to the car to find a family of Billy goats licking bugs off the bumpers. We saw 3 (!!) bears on our way out of the area, then enjoyed some Canadian beer on the shore of Loon Lake.

We took a 9 mile guided hike to Iceberg Lake with Kara, a park ranger, who did an amazing job explaining the geology, flora and fauna of the area. Then we hiked back towards Cracker Lake on a horse trail, and when it started to T-Storm we cut the hike shore and slopped miles back through the muddiest, nastiest, sloppiest horse trail ever. After a shower at the Many Glacier Motor Inn, we finished the day with a fancy dinner at the Many Glacier Hotel.

We packed up camp and drove on Going to the Sun Rd (finally open!), through Logan Pass, back to the West side of the Park, then down through Coeur d'Alene, ID and to our hotel room for Sat night in Spokane!

9:15AM Sunday July 13 found us on a 17 mile hike up the South Loop trail, through The Meadows, reaching the 11,918 ft Summit (in the clouds) at 1:15, and heading down the North Loop trail to the Trail Canyon Trail. Although we heard distant thunder all morning, it wasn't until 5:30pm when the sky darkened and the rain fell in torrents! Thankfully we had just made it back to the car!

On Sat Aug 13 we flew from Vegas to Oakland, CA to take delivery of our brand new 2009 TDI (diesel) SportWagen. Who fly so far? Because it has the elusive 6 speed manual with panoramic sunroof and reflex silver exterior with black leatherette interior, that's why! We then drown from San Francisco down Pacific Rt 1, which is an amazing drive!

7-19-08, Day trip to Mt Whitney, highest peak in the continental 48 states. Andy had knee issues which stopped his ascent at just over 12K ft, but Briar made it to the 14K+ ft summit!! Since Andy reached the summit in 2007, now we both can claim highest peak in the lower 48!

Briar's parents in town, so we took them to our favorite area in the SW- Brian Head, Utah. We fished, biked, hiked, and saw all manner of wildlife and weather. Clouds, rain, sunburn, wind, even hail! Mom even took her 1st ever mountain bike ride, and we rode 9 miles around Navajo Lake!

As a late 3 year anniversary celebration, Briar & I spent the weekend at the Blue Springs Lodge near Panguitch Lake, Utah. Briar did a high altitude run around the lake with Andy following on the bike, then we rode the Bunker Creek Trail and around Navajo Lake. Good times!

Sorry so few pictures! Briar & Andy spent the whole day volunteering for the car show- registering people and guiding them to parking places and then tearing down and cleaning up afterward. Andy only had about 5 minutes to run through at the very end to snap a few photos! 97 cars and 3 motorcycles showed up!

We drove down to PineKnot campground the evening of Oct 17, had dinner at the Big Bear Brewery (along Rt 18 just W of town), slept IN THE CAR! You gotta love station wagons- it was in the 20's at night but we were toasty warm- even left the windows partway open all night! Then a day of biking around town and Mtn Biking up on the trails at the top of the ski runs, followed by dinner at the Oktoberfest Celebration.

We drove up to Mt Charleston to see if the snow was down below 8500 ft (which is as high as you can drive), and it wasn't, but on the way back down Lee canyon we did encounter something much more exciting!!

February 27-March 2 found us at "Northstar At Tahoe" Resort on a retreat with Soraya, Jose, Amy & Tim. The views were breathtaking, the food was tremendous, the skiing was sublime (when the snow wasn't slushy), the accommodations were second to none, and our whole crew got along like old friends.

The weekend of March 7-8 found us in Sandy, Utah, staying with some relatives of our friends from Vegas: Scott, Terry & Katie M. They live at the entrance of the canyon that includes Snowbird & Alta ski resorts, so we spent Saturday on the slopes. Great snow, single digit temps at the summit, lots of varied terrain, and tons of fun back home with our host family!

For our last weekend of Skiing/Boarding of winter '08-'09, what better place to wind up than Brian Head. Our (east-coast native) Vegas friend Jace joined us as we explored the West mountain (down to Navajo lodge) for the 1st time (!!). Temps in the low 30's and fresh snow during the previous week made for a good sending-off of this winter season.

A "short hike" out behind our place turned into us scaling the scree fields on the SW side of Brian Head summit. I do NOT recommend this route to reach the summit- it was very loose and we should have had gloves. Strangely enough, this was our very first trip all the way to the summit- all of our previous trips up there stopped short at the Sidney Peaks trail head.

While they were on vacation, we met Briar's parents in San Diego for some fun! On Friday the 3rd we took a 3-hour-tour out into La Jolla Bay. We saw seals, techtonic plates, and we think we even saw a sand shark.

Navajo Lake Loop- What better trail for family/friends who aren't as intimate with their mountain bikes?? :-D We took Mom & Dad Logee on the 9 mile loop and fun was had by all.

This is the infamous Zion water hike: "The Narrows." We only hiked 1 mile into the canyon (to the Y where the canyons split) but 2 miles of hiking in the river took HOURS! Mom & Dad Logee joined us for the fun! The temps in Zion were 110+ that day, but it was very cool in the narrows.

On Saturday August 1st, Chris & Heidi joined us with 2 of their dogs, Clyde and Keeva (Kiva?) for a mtn bike ride around Navajo Lake, Utah. We even took a swim in the lake!

August 2nd found us trying a new trail at Brian Head- "Old Dark Hollow", which runs parallel to the East of the Dark Hollow trail we rode early last summer. It is not quite as technical as Dark Hollow, but tons of fun nonetheless. Trevor joined us for the fun!
